Ballet Folclórico de la Universidad Católica Boliviana “San Pablo”
The Ballet Folclórico de la Universidad Católica Boliviana “San Pablo” (BFUCB) was founded on February 9, 1986 (40 years ago) in the facilities of the La Paz headquarters of the Bolivian Catholic University (UCB) “Saint Paul”, under the direction of Norah Valverde Tapia, whose Bachelor thesis submitted to the UCB Social Communication Department in 1995, entitled “The Folkloric Ballet, a means for communication, a proposal for conceptual systematization”, founds the BFUCB in its category of “Folkloric Ballet”.
The BFUCB is part of the UCB Department of Culture and Art and has 6 official dance groups, with more than 65 students, and although many of them are students of the different careers of the University, others are already graduates. actividades de celebración de nuestra institución, el Ballet Folclórico de la Universidad Católica Boliviana “San Pablo” – Regional La Paz (BFUCB), que este 2021 cumple 35 años de trabajo ininterrumpido.
The BFUCB has staged different ballet works of a social-historical nature created by the Director and has a repertoire of more than 45 Bolivian folklore dances, with its own choreographies and costumes.
Objectives:
- Revalue, safeguard and spread Bolivian folk dance cultural diversity and raise awareness about Bolivian cultural identity in the country itself as well as on an international scale.
Achievements:
Since 2011, has already organized ten versions of the International Folklore Dance Festival “La Danza Integradora de Culturas” (FIDIC) with the participation of professional casts from America, Europe and Asia.
Pioneer in the formation of a Folkloric Ballet at the National University System level
Has represented Bolivia and the UCB in more than 30 opportunities in different countries: Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, France, Hungary, Italy, Macedonia, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain and Venezuela.
