Croatian Cultural and Educational Society “Matija Gubec” – Tavakut

The Croatian Cultural and Educational Society “Matija Gubec” from Tavankut was founded in 1946, based on a drama group that was active at the time. Later, the Society’s focus shifted toward the folk dance section, along with the tamburitza orchestra, which promotes tradition and customs through song and dance in the surrounding region. These became the hallmark of the Society, and ultimately of the entire Tavankut community, the Croatian community in the area, and of the whole Vojvodina.
Today, the Society has around 200 members, across several sections, the largest of which is the folklore group, active in three age categories.
Besides folklore, the Society is also widely known for its straw art.
