Matyó Ensemble- Hungary
The Matyós are an ethnographic group formed in the 19th century, that lives in Mezőkövesd, north Hungary. At the turn of the century, the colorful patterns of Matyó folk art became one of the emblematic symbols of Hungary. Traditional Matyó folk culture includes characteristic embroideries
and clothing, handicrafts and folk dance. The guardian of this is Matyó Ensemble founded in 1947.
In their shows, the traditions of local and Carpathian folk dance are processed, the choreographies are performed in wonderful folk costumes. The ensemble is maintained by the Matyó Folk Art Association, dance team leaders: Dr. Gábor Nyiri and Pap Rita.
